Statement of Purpose

Since I was very young, I used to think about why individuals and societies are so varied. What are the forces that shape our social existence and influence the way we think, feel, and act? I have always been passionately interested in understanding the functional and structural dynamics of human society, such as norms, culture, religion, ethnicity, gender, social institutions, political practices, and legislation; and the factors of social development and decline in modern society. Sociology provides a lens to look at such areas objectively to understand why the world is as it is today. That is why I feel a powerful urge to learn and utilize Sociology.

I have completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology, during which I consistently maintained strong academic performance and developed a solid foundation in sociological theory and research methods. My Master’s dissertation focused on social behavior patterns and institutional influences on community dynamics, which strengthened my interest in empirical research and data-driven analysis. Additionally, my three years of experience as a university lecturer in Sociology has further enhanced my analytical, communication, and academic skills, while allowing me to engage critically with contemporary sociological debates.

My research interest focuses on cross-cultural variations in reproductive behavior, gender and sexuality studies, environmental sociology, and the evolving role of social institutions such as family, religion, economy, and political systems. In particular, I aim to explore how modernization and globalization are reshaping reproductive and family structures in developing societies, where traditional norms and modern influences often coexist in tension. This represents a significant sociological gap, especially in comparative cross-cultural contexts, where empirical research remains limited.

From a methodological perspective, I am interested in both qualitative and quantitative research approaches, including surveys, interviews, and comparative analysis. I also aim to strengthen my skills in data analysis tools such as SPSS and NVivo during my doctoral studies, which will support rigorous and systematic research output.
The United Kingdom remains one of the most prominent global destinations for higher education, particularly in the field of social sciences. UK universities are internationally recognized for their research excellence, academic rigor, and contribution to global knowledge production. This strong research environment has been a key motivation for my decision to pursue doctoral studies in the UK.

I have specifically chosen the University of Aberdeen for my PhD studies due to its strong academic reputation in sociology and social research. The university’s emphasis on interdisciplinary research methods, theoretical advancement, and applied sociology aligns closely with my academic interests. I am particularly interested in engaging with faculty members working on social inequality, gender studies, and institutional sociology, whose research closely aligns with my proposed area of study. I believe this academic environment will provide the intellectual guidance and research facilities necessary to develop a high-quality doctoral thesis.

I am a committed, disciplined, and motivated individual with a strong passion for academic research and teaching. I understand the intellectual and methodological challenges of doctoral study and am fully prepared to engage in independent research, critical analysis, and academic contribution. I am confident in my ability to adapt to the demands of postgraduate study and contribute positively to the academic community.

My long-term career goal is to pursue a career in academia as a university lecturer and social research scholar. Following the completion of my PhD, I aim to contribute to teaching, research, and publication in Sociology, with a particular focus on generating knowledge that supports social development and evidence-based policymaking. I also aspire to contribute to academic discourse that promotes a deeper and more objective understanding of social realities.
