NTS Test – Format, Types & Complete Guide

National Testing Service (NTS) is a reputable organization of Pakistan, and its assessment is trusted in all setups across the country. Nowadays, most educational institutions have mandated the NTS test for scholarships and admission to Intermediate, Bachelors, MPhil, and PhD programs. Likewise, many professional organizations require the NTS test for recruitment. It conducts tests for the following:

  • Admissions
  • Scholarships
  • Recruitment
  • Promotion

   Types of NTS Test

The NTS conducts various types of National Aptitude Test (NAT), broadly divided into the following two major categories:

  • CATEGORY ONE: For candidates having 12 years of education. This category includes the following six types of tests: NAT-IE, NAT-IM, NAT-IA, NAT-ICS, NTS-IGS, and NTS-ICOM. Each test consists of 90 MCQs.
  • CATEGORY TWO: For candidates having 14 years of education. This category includes five types of tests: NAT-IIA, NAT-IIB, NAT-IIM, NAT-IIP, and NAT-IIO. Each test consists of 100 MCQs.

   Test Format

All the tests include the following three common sections:

  • English: Sentence Completion, Analogy, Antonym, Comprehension & Synonym Questions
  • Analytical: Scenario-Based & Statements-Based Questions
  • Quantitative: Arithmetic, Algebra, & Geometry Questions

However, different types of tests include one additional section based on the subject of the test type, as follows:

Category 1 – For Candidates with 12 Years of Education

Each test has 90 MCQs to be solved in 90 minutes. 60 MCQs are from the above three common areas, whereas 30 MCQs are from the following subject areas in each test:

  • NAT-IE: Pre-Engineering Group (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics)
  • NAT-IM: Pre-Medical Group (Physics, Chemistry & Biology)
  • NAT-IA: Arts Group (Islamiyat/Ethics, Pakistan Studies, General Knowledge)
  • NAT-ICS: Computer Science Group (Physics, Computer: Introduction to Computer Skills & Programming Skills, Fundamentals of Database; Mathematics)
  • NTS-IGS: General Science Group (Mathematics, Statistics, & Economics)
  • NTS-ICOM: Commerce Group (Accounting, Commerce & Economics)

Category 2 – For Candidates with 14 Years of Education

Each test has 100 MCQs to be solved in 120 minutes. A varying number of questions are given from the following subject areas as shown, whereas the remaining number of questions are from the above common three areas: English, Analytical, and Quantitative.

  • NAT-IIA: Art & Humanities Group (Islamiyat/Ethics, Pakistan Studies, General Knowledge & Current Affairs) – 50 MCQs
  • NAT-IIB: Biological Sciences Group (Botany, Plant Physiology, Taxonomy, Environment, Genetics, Ecology, Algae/Fungi, Bryophytes/Pteridophyte, Angiosperm/Gymnosperm, Zoology, Vertebrates, Invertebrates, Chemistry, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies) – 70 MCQs
  • NAT-IIM: Management Sciences Group (Management (Basic), Marketing (Basic), Finance & Accounting (Basic), Economics (Basic), Business Ethics (Basic), Computer Science (Basic), Islamiyat & Pakistan Studies) – 70 MCQs
  • NAT-IIP: Physical Sciences Group (Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Islamiyat & Pakistan Studies) – 70 MCQs
  • NAT-IIO: Oriental & Islamic Studies Group (Islamic History, Comparison of Religions & Sources of Islamic Religion/Quran & Hadith) – 40 MCQs

   How to Apply for NAT Test

  1. Register Online
    • Go to the official website of NTS.
    • Create your account as a new user.
  2. Upload Your Photo
    • Upload a recent photo showing your full face.
  3. Apply for NAT Test
    • After login, select the latest NAT test from the list of available projects.
  4. Download Bank Deposit Slip
    • Get your deposit slip from the online portal of NTS.
  5. Pay the Fee
    • Deposit the fee via:
      • 1Link / 1Bill participating banks
      • ATM / Internet Banking / Mobile Banking
      • Easypaisa / JazzCash / TCS Express Counters
  6. Fill Your Registration Form
    • Log in and enter your personal info, academic records, and employment info (if any).
    • Academic records: Write major subjects, percentage (two digits), and board/university abbreviation (e.g., FBISE Islamabad, BISE Rawalpindi).
    • Choose your primary and secondary test cities.
  7. Submit Form
    • Make sure all details are complete and correct. Incomplete forms will not be processed.
  8. Check Updates
    • Keep checking NTS Website for:
      • Eligible candidates list
      • Test venue
      • Other updates
  9. Download Roll Number Slip
    • Roll number slips are uploaded at least 7 days before the test.
    • You will also receive an SMS on your registered mobile number.
  10. University Admission
    • Use your NTS result card to apply for university admissions as per their announcements.

   Validity of NTS Test Result

The NTS test result remains valid for one year.
