Indirect Speech of Question Sentences
Direct Speech کے سوالیہ جملوں کو Indirect Speech میں تبدیل کرنے کے مندرجہ ذیل rules ہیں۔
سوالیہ جملہ کے indirect speech میں لفظ that کا استعمال نہیں ہوتا۔
اگر direct speech میں لفظ say یا tell استعمال ہوا ہے ) مثلا ً (He said. He told. اِن الفاظ کی جگہ indirect speech میں ask یا inquire جیسے الفاظ کا استعما ل کیا جاتاہے۔
Indirect speech میں سوالیہ جملہ کو positive sentence میں تبدیل کرکے بیان کیا جاتا ہے۔ عام جملوں کی طرح سوالیہ جملوں کے indirect speech میں بھی جملہ کا Tense تبدیل ہوتا ہے لیکن سوالیہ جملہ کو مثبت جملہ بنایا جاتا ہے۔
Examples.
Direct speech:
He said to me, “Where are you going?”
Indirect speech:
He asked me where I was going. (Correct)
Indirect speech:
He asked me where was I going. (Wrong)
Direct speech:
He said to me, “What is your name?”
Indirect speech:
He asked me what my name was. (Correct)
Indirect speech:
He asked me what was my name. (Wrong)
Indirect speech میں چونکہ سوالیہ جملہ کو positive sentence بناکر بیان کیا جاتا ہے تو جملہ کے آخر میں سوالیہ نشان (question mark ?) نہیں لگایا جاتا۔
عام جملوں کی طرح سوالیہ جملوں کے indirect speech میں بھی "inverted commas" کو ہٹایا جاتا ہے۔
اوپر دیے گئے rules کا اطلاق سارے سوالیہ جملوں پر ہوتا ہے،لیکن اِس کے علاوہ ایک rule ایسا ہے جس کا استعمال سوالیہ جملہ کی قسم کے مطابق ہوتا ہے ۔
سوالیہ جملوں کے دو اقسام ہیں۔
وہ سوال جس کا جواب Yes یا No میں دیا جا سکتا ہو۔
وہ سوال جس کا جواب صرف Yes یا No سے نہیں دیا جا سکتا ہو اور اُس کے لیے کچھ الفاظ یا جملہ کی صورت میں جواب چاہیے ہوتا ہے۔ایسے سوال how, what, why, where, when جیسے الفاظ سے شروع ہوتے ہیں۔
"وہ سوال جس کا جواب Yes یا No میں دیا جا سکتا ہو" کا Indirect speech
ایسے جملوں کے indirect speech میں لفظ if یا whether کا استعمال کیا جاتا ہے۔ اِن دونوں لفظوں میں کوئی بھی لفظ استعمال کیا جا سکتا ہے۔یاد رہے کہ indirect speech میں ہمیشہ سوالیہ جملہ کو positive sentence بنایا جاتا ہے۔

He asked me If I was going to Lahore.
She said to me, “Will you help the poor boy?”
She asked me If I would help the poor boy.
She said to me, “Have you passed the exam?”
She asked me If I had passed the exam.
He said to me, “Do you work in a factory?”
She asked me If I worked in a factory.
They said to me, “Will you buy a camera?”
They asked me If I would buy a camera.
He said to me, “Did you enjoy the meal?”
He asked me whether I enjoyed the meal.
You said to me, “Is it raining?”
You asked me whether it was raining.
He said to me, ‘Can I drive a car?”
He asked me whether he could drive a car.
"وہ سوال جس کا جواب Yes یا No سے نہیں دیا جا سکتا ہو" کا Indirect speech
ایسے جملوں کے indirect speech میں لفظ if یا whether کا استعمال نہیں کیا جاتا ہے، صرف سوالیہ جملہ کو positive sentence بنا کر بیان کیا جاتا ہے۔

They asked when they would play football.
She said to me, “What are you doing?”
She asked me what I was doing.
He said to me, “What is your name?”
He asked me what my name was.
They said to me, “Where are you going?”
They asked me where I was going.
Sajid said to me, “How are you?”
Sajid asked me how I was.
He said to me, “How can I solve this problem?”
He asked me how he could solve this problem?
She said to me, “Where can I buy some food?”
She asked me where she could buy some food.
He said to me, “When will you come?”
He asked when I would come.
